Understanding Supernatural Powers

Sempai Knowledge, Life, Spiritual, The Mind

There’s much to the world that is a mystery. We don’t know the fundamentals of what stuff is made of yet, we don’t have a single theory to explain everything, we don’t understand the Genesis of the universe, understand consciousness empirically in any fashion – there are great chasms in our understanding. Some of these are the limits of empiricism – we cannot know what we cannot measure. Perhaps we will never understand these things. In ancient mythology, across the globe, there has been talk of humans with extraordinary or seemingly magical powers. These stories persist today. Sun Gazing Yogis A recent one is the yogi, Ratan Manek who claims to live on sungazing, a practice of looking at the sun for long periods of time. Worse, the claim is that NASA have confirmed this, and that it gives him supernatural powers, the ability to survive without food. Absolute falsehood, there are no such studies in existence. There is plenty of suggestion this man and others just hide eating food, in every such study so far. There’s supposed video of …

There’s a number of ways to altered consciousness. I’ll start with the more everyday changes in conciousness. Sleep deprivation is the altered state the most people are familiar with. It is anxious,  with tunnel vision, vision disturbances, muddled thinking, and yet in other places it is pleasant, where the cannibinoid Oleylethonalamine is released producing sleepiness, warmth, hunger and ease. A variety of body caused ‘highs’ can be produced. The body releases its own opiates, the beta endorphins with a variety of things, like food, sex. Also in exercise, where anandamide, natures THC is released at the same time. A good high intensity work out will give you a great clean buzz. Oxytocin, with it’s MDMA like effect on the brain is connected to bonding. But when talking about altered states, euphoria may not be what people have in mind. A number of physical conditions can produce altered consciousness, such as lack of oxygen, infection or epilepsy. Some epileptics have profound religious like experiences. A fever can in itself produce hallucinations, creating a delirient effect. When I had this, I saw totally …

Scientists have studied exactly what Psychedelics do to the brain, and it’s not what we’ve been told

It turns out that psychedelics aren’t just good for turning into an elf and jousting a car. Psychiatrists, psychologists and specialists in addiction and recovery from traumatic experiences have been investigating the use of hallucinogens in treatment programs, and the results indicate that psychedelics actually have practical therapeutic uses. And one drug has proven particularly useful. Repeated studies have found the psychedelic compound found in magic mushrooms, psilocybin, can help people move past major life issues — like beating alcoholism and becoming more empathetic. The research: One study concluded that controlled exposure to psilocybin could have long-lasting medical and spiritual benefits. In 2011, Johns Hopkins researchers found that by giving volunteer test subjects just the right dose (not enough to give them a terrifying bad trip), they were able to reliably induce transcendental experiences in volunteers. This provoked long-lasting psychological growth and helped the volunteers to find peace in their lives, all without side effects. Nearly all of the 18 test subjects, average age 46, were college graduates. Seventy-eight percent were religious and all were interested in finding a scientific experience. Fourteen months later, …
